Notes From Underground on Libya

Why, look around you: blood is flowing in rivers, and in such a jolly way besides, like champagne.

Notes From Underground

The next step in prepping for shooting “Notes From Underground” is to summarize each of the 11 notes with a phrase or sentence.  Here are my 11:

1.  Ask me my name.

2. Embarrass me. I like it.

3.  The lie of 2+2=4.

4 . crafty moans.

5. Fall in love out of boredom.

6. Beautiful, lofty, lazy.

7. One’s own fancy is the most profitable profit (this is me talking now.)

8. He will even risk his gingerbread, and wish on purpose for the most pernicious nonsense.

9. Whether its good or bad, it’s sometimes also very pleasant to break something.

10. Destroy my desires, wipe out my ideals, show me something better, and I will follow you.

11. What if I put you away for some forty years with nothing to do, and then come to you in the underground after forty years to see how you’ve turned out?

Production starts on “Notes From Underground”

My friend Peter O’Leary (IMDB) was like “we know how to make movies, we have access to equipment, what the fuck are we waiting for?”

So we decided to start production on a corporate version of Dostoevsky’s Notes From Underground.  We had our first meeting yesterday where we drank coffee, debated the existence of universal empathy, smoked cigarettes (him, not me) and fleshed out a plan.

The idea is that the first section of the book (hereafter referred to as “the rant”) is the soul of the story.  The second section is great, and could make for some fantastic scenes, but without the first section, the second section would seem a little…familiar.  Sad guy fucks up socially and professionally.  But the rant is defiant.  As are we.  So that’s where the ideas must come from.

Next step is picking ideas from the rant and choosing one that we can translate visually, rather than verbally.  We’re picking the scene next week.
